Ozzie Smith is one of the most loved baseball players of all time. He was a real crowd pleaser, and an incredible player. At the start of every game when he trotted out to the shortstop position, he would do a complete flip and land on his feet. It started with his natural exuberance, and quickly became his trademark. His nickname of course was "The Wizard of Oz," and it was great that he embraced this nickname and incorporated the imagery of the story into his acceptance speech. He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame on Sunday, July 28, 2002, and he was the only player inducted that year. That's an incredible honor. The website is www.baseballhalloffame.org When you get to the site, click on "hall of famers and honorees" Then on the next screen you can click on his speech (underlined), where the biographies of the members of the hall of fame are listed.
